A former Jersey College for Girls pupil is hoping to make contact with one of her old school friends, Alexandra (known as Sandy) Hyde-Clarke.

Ros Cubitt Rice, of St Brelade, was prompted to get in touch having seen a recent article which included a photograph of Astrid Hyde-Clarke, Alexandra’s sister.

She says that she, Sandy and Mary Bartlett (née Noble) were keen swimmers at the Jersey Swimming Club, as well as school friends.

‘I’m still in touch with Mary, who now lives in Norfolk, and with another mutual school friend, Natacha (née Gallitch). I’m Rosamond (known as Ros) née Sowden. We often talk of Sandy and wonder how and where she is.’

She said that some of the swimming successes of Sandy and Mary were recorded in John Fage’s book on 120 years of the Jersey Swimming Club, as were her brother Terry’s. She also said that Sandy and Astrid had a younger sister, Caroline.

Now 70+ years of age, she said that she did not want to leave it any longer before trying to make contact, although she would understand should, with the passing of time, Sandy and her sisters not wish to renew contact.
