Halksworth shines on GB debut

Daniel Halksworth: Top Brit in Australia
DISTANCE specialist Daniel Halksworth was just five seconds off claiming a world title today.
The 23-year-old finished second in the men’s under-23 World Aquathlon Championship on Australia’s Gold Coast. With a 2.5 km run, 1,000m swim, and a second 2.5 km run to conquer the former Victoria College student paced himself well, finishing the first phase in fifth with a time of 7.15 min.
Completing his strongest phase, the swim, in 12.56 min he moved up to second and held on to that position with a second run of 9.16 min to finish in 29.27 behind Italian Andrea Secchiero in 29.22 and three seconds in front of fellow Brit Philip Wolfe.
Jersey’s Derek Taylor, in the 65-69s’ event, and Truusje Gamlin, in the 55-59s’ event, will be in action for Great Britain in the World Triathlon Age Group Championships on the Gold Coast on Saturday.
