JERSEY go into this weekend’s athletics inter-insular realistic about their chances.
Coach Andrew Winnie said that with Guernsey bringing their big names to the Island in the men’s senior competition, it will be difficult for the home side to win that contest at the FB Fields. However, he believes Jersey will be the clear favourite to take the women’s event.
Winnie said: ‘Guernsey will be bringing over the likes of Dale Garland, Lee Merrien and Tom Druce for the senior men’s event. With athletes like that turning out the senior men’s trophy is probably not going to be ours.
‘But I would expect us to win the senior women’s event quite comfortably – the age group events will be very close as has been the case for the past three or four years and it will just depend on performances on the day.’
The action starts at FB Fields today, 12.30 pm, with the senior, under-15 and U11 events followed tomorrow with the U13 and U17s.
