THE mystery of the Gorey UFO has deepened, with more Islanders reporting sightings.

About a dozen people have contacted the JEP to say they have spotted strange happenings in our skies in recent days.

They contacted the newspaper after reading the account of two elderly women who say that they saw a UFO three times last Friday night at about 11.30 pm. Gladys (92) and Christine (87) Manning said that they saw a red UFO that hovered in the sky, looked something like a doll’s house and travelled at great speed.

And now others say they saw something very similar at about the same time. Maggie Jégat, of Clos de l’Eglise, Grouville, was in a car with two friends when they saw unusual lights in the sky. She said they had driven down the hill into Gorey and had turned the corner by the coach-parking area when they spotted three red lights in the sky.

Also on Friday night an occupant of flats at Les Arches, who declined to be named, said that he saw something strange, like a weather balloon drifting across the sky.

And a St Helier woman sent in a picture of her taken ten days ago which shows strange lights in the sky. It was taken by her friend, former Holby City actor Ian Aspinall, at La Coupe in St Martin. Jackie Collins, a finance worker, said that the picture was not taken to show the lights, but that they just appeared in it.

What a fuss about nothing. It was only the Jersey Live team testing out their equipment last Friday night, that’s all.

    1. Ann – Sounds like you’re dismissing reality as you’re too closed minded to accept anything other than the norm. Denying what people have seen because you’re too afraid to consider the possibilities.

Ann…what exactly do you think they were ‘testing’ at Jersey Live lol. The witnesses claim the thing landed three times in their garden then took off across the sky. Those photographs show bright lights high in the sky at Gorey. To dismiss this all as something to do with JerseyLive is quite frankly ridiculous.

none of us should worry about ufo’s or any other alien sightings round jersey. Cause if our so called great and glorious leaders in the states are anything to go by they will soon come up with a new tax for them to pay before landing.

so i think overall were pretty safe don’t you……

If aliens did exist do you truly think they would spend lots of time hanging around Gorey?

Ha – you’d think the ‘aliens’ would have picked a better location to spy on than Gorey :) – Although maybe if they landed there they’d fit right in and be totally inconspicuous. hmmm

I am in the los angeles area and about 15-20 minutes ago my mom spotted a moving light in the sky. It was not a plane or anything of that matter because of the way it was moving. The movement was left to right and up and down…it would get brighter and then also dim..I have no idea what it was..maybe sojmebody can help us.

These are sky lanterns, they are let off at festivals. They are paper lanterns, about 2ft high, and they move at quite a speed, people let them off at weddings and for memorials

My husband and I saw a UFO at 8pm tonight in Grouville, it was a bright white light which moved in a dead straight line, it moved across the sky west to east and then went straight up and disappeared. It was too fast to be a plane, left no trail and was silent. Anyone got any explanations?

The other day I saw a really bright yellow orange light shoot up from below the east horizon about 5am and it shot across the sky about 1,000mph and disappeared below the west horizon about 7:30pm. It was awesome.

I believe there MUST be life elsewhere in the universe….we can’t be that arrogant or ignorant to consider otherwise.

However, realistically, do you think if a civilization is advanced enough to travel the length of the galaxy to our pleasant planet that they would waste much of their time hovering over the Channel Islands? Or even would “allow” us to even see them with their far superior technology?

Has anyone even considered camera malfunctions, debris on contact lenses or glasses or even reflections in glass.

The picture from Craig above certainly doesn’t look like a UFO to me…more like a dodgy camera/lens :-) )

Hate to burst your bubble but the right hand light in your photo looks to be a shot of planet Jupiter which can be seen south east low off the horizon from twiglight onwards. It is the brightest ‘star’ in the sky at that time. The slight blur appearing to give it motion will simply be due the shutter speed being set too slow. Nothing UFO about this pic.

#21, I agree, but given the number of forms that such life could take (plantlife, bacteria etc) I see no reason to believe in the ‘little green man’ type ‘alien’.

Just think, this light could have come from so far away that whatever caused it could have passed by centuries, even millenia ago.

Wow,,,pretty wicked if it is true,,,seeing as though most intelligent people on earth dont even know where the channel islands are nevermind Gorey… ;o) If it is true, think they are just waiting for the housing commmittee to build new houses out there before landing !!! ;o)

I’m sorry but I’m sick of you lot taking the piss. I don’t see the word ‘Alien’ in either of the UFO Gorey articles. UFO stands for unidentified flying object. This doesn’t mean aliens, it just means that there was something in the sky that was unidentifiable. It’s you lot that jumped to the alien conclusion!

In reply to some of the comments re Jersey as a desirable landing spot for Aliens, why not?
How do we know that these particular ones are not closely related to Oysters for example and want to visit their distant cousins in the Royal Bay of Grouville?
How do we know they are not partial to Oysters and are therefore being told by their instruments that this is a great place to land in much the same way as our Space probes are currently looking for water sources on other planets?
Maybe the efforts of Jersey Tourism’s advertising program have been more successful than even they thought? (No not even in my drunkest moment will I accept that one)
How about this as an alternative explanation, a number of Islanders who have become disillusioned with our so called cheap air and sea fares have clubbed together and bought an illicit Hot Air Balloon? (The only trouble is the thing keeps getting attracted to the up current above the States building in St Helier and so is useless as a means of transport!)
My concern if they are Aliens is who will we choose to meet them when they eventually land?
If they are unfriendly we can always get our local territorial unit to confine them in Gorey Castle!
What happens if they resemble large lobsters?
    Have we enough Mayonnaise?
The problems are endless, but with our usual adaptability and expertise we will undoubtedly manage somehow.
Meanwhile, all those “On watch” carry on, or alternatively follow my old grandfather’s remedy “You need a little more water with it dear boy!”

Joker@19 You are so right. I have been watching a huge white orb that comes up in the sky every evening. It gets wider and wider, till it is disc-shaped. This happens every 28 days. The worrying thing is, if you look closely, you can see a face in it! What can it possibly be?

Hi I’m from Glasgow in Scotland. On 15 Sept at 9.30pm was travelling to work (I work nightshift at a petrol station) and saw a tight group of white lights revolving in the sky, then randomly but at speed flying around the sky. There was no noise, no beams of light from a ground source (it was a drizzly night) and I could see that the source of the lights was above the cloud cover. They moved too fast to be gliders or hot air ballons. I thought perhaps remote controlled airplane toys but the area where the light hit the clouds was really big. They were definately unidentified flying objects! but I’m not one for jumping to the conclusion that it must be “aliens” – it would be an awful waste of fuel to wind up a planet for fun. But no comments from police, MOD etc to what was flying around near a major airport.
