Teresa Ferreira with committe members at Glanville Residential Home
A CARE worker has celebrated 31 years of service at an Island care home.
The committee of Glanville Home presented Teresa Ferreira with a cheque and other gifts to mark her recent retirement. ‘I was very happy to receive the gifts, I did not expect anything,’ she said.
During her time at the home Teresa has performed a variety of roles, from cleaning rooms to assisting with the care of residents.
When asked if the home had changed much during her time there, she said that the home went through a dramatic change when the current manager, Wayne Stead, took up the position at the home eight years ago. ‘He modernised the rooms and made the home feel more of a community,’ she said.
When asked about her long career, Teresa said: ‘I enjoyed my work very, very much. They treat you very well,’ adding that her retirement had left her with mixed emotions and she felt ‘both very happy and very sad’.
But Mrs Ferreira’s retirement does not mark the end of her association with the home, because she still goes in to help out when she is needed.
The president of the Glanville Home Committee, Philippa Romeril, said of Mrs Ferreira: ‘She is a lovely lady who always has a smile on her face and is always willing to help. She is an employee everyone would love to have.’
