Channel Television revenue challenge?
Friday 18th September 2009, 2:59PM BST.
CONFUSION reigns over the long-term future of a key source of income for Channel Television following moves by regulator Ofcom to beef up fines for breaches of its broadcasting code.
Ofcom wants the power to levy fines of millions of pounds against the entire ITV network for breaches of compliance
However, under the existing rules only the compliance company has been liable.
The amount Channel could be fined is capped at about £200,000.
As a result, ITV plc has told producers that it would oversee and verify all programmes from now on in addition to the work Channel already does.
This means that they are likely to do their own checks of content already passed by Channel’s vetting process.
