JERSEY have moved to third place in the National Division 3 Rugby League after beating Sutton and Epsom by 45-0 at St Peter on Saturday.

Promotion favourites Hertford and Bracknell both lost their games, which means that Havant and Dorking are now in first and second.

The results have boosted the confidence of Jersey coach Ben Harvey that the local team can challenge for the top. ‘I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – and I don’t say this lightly. We should, and we’re capable of, beating everyone in this league,’ he said. ‘Although we chose Nobby (Marcus Nobes) as our man of the match, that could have gone to any one of ten other players.

‘The result was based on a good squad performance although, to be fair, their defence was good until we wore them down, and outwitted them as well. But it took nearly half an hour to do it.’
