FOR some it might stand as yet more evidence of UFOs visiting our sun-kissed shores.

Did little green men more used to indulging their artistic aspirations in corn fields have to resort to drawing lines in the sand when they found cattle rather than wheat?

Unfortunately, and despite several recent reports of UFO sightings, it appears that the creature behind the artwork that appeared on Plémont beach on Saturday is very human.

And rather than having a ray gun in his tool box, he had nothing more than a rake and a piece of string.

Samm Matheson sent in the image after happening across the stunning design. At first, a room full of sceptical hacks thought it was the work of Photoshop, but inquiries have revealed that it appears to be genuine.

However, the identity of the artist remains a mystery and readers – or even the artist – are asked to get in touch to reveal who he is.

Anyone who can identify the artist can call the JEP on 611636.

I have a couple of Flickr friends in Guernsey who do wonderful ‘rake art’ which they then photograph from above by attaching a camera to a kite. They’re lovely pieces of temporary art. I’ve wondered whether to tell the JEP about them but …well, being based in Guernsey, I didn’t bother.

You can see their art on Flickr here:

It’s possible they were over in the island but either way, it’s a lovely piece of work.

Very clever! I’d love to watch this sand artist at work. Jersey tourism should pick up on this one: “Golden beaches designed by Sandman, et al!”
