SOME of Jersey’s highest profile countryside groups and campaigners have today voiced their support for the A Line in the Sand event.

On Sunday week, the National Trust for Jersey hopes that thousands of Islanders will form a human chain along the beach in St Ouen’s Bay to show their support for the protection of Jersey’s under-threat coastline.

Today, Island environmental and sports groups, as well as countryside campaigners have unanimously spoken out in support of the event.

One such supporter, former environmental adviser to the States, Dr Michael Romeril, is flying back from his home in the UK to attend the event. In a letter of support, he said: ‘I share the public unease at the apparent lack of environmental consideration presently emanating from the States.

‘There must be a States resolve to “draw a line in the sand” and give Jersey’s coastline the respect and protection it deserves.’

Islanders who want to take part are asked to gather at Le Braye at 1 pm on Sunday, 4 October.

We, the people of Jersey will show our support for this cause, they the States of Jersey will do as usual and ignore us.

I agree with Mogit we all want what is best for Jersey, we can all see the pitfalls of the current situation but the states sit in their comfortable little chambers away from reality making decisions none of us like or approve. The attitude of certain states members is insulting to the general public we are intelligent people who want the best for our home and families. Good luck to all who attend A line in the Sand I will be there but I fear no matter how many locals attend it will not make that much of a difference
