Gordon Burgis and Kenny Snell in last year's championships
A RECORD number of entries are expected this weekend for the Brewin Dolphin Channel Islands Hobie Cat Championships in St Aubin’s Bay.
Entries have risen steadily since the first event 18 years ago and organisers are hopeful of passing last year’s largest ever Fleet of 26 Hobie Cats.
Organised by the Royal Channel Islands Yacht Club, racing will be around triangular courses in St Aubin’s Bay, utilising the length and width of the Bay for all Hobie classes.
With teams from Guernsey, the United Kingdom and Germany entered, the popular Hobie 16 in A and B Fleets will be the strongest classes with around 17 boats in each.
Registration takes place on Friday, between 6.30 and 7.30 pm at the RCIYC, and notice of race and entry forms can be collected from the club or downloaded on the website www.rciyc.je
Racing starts at 10 am on Saturday and Sunday.
