La Moye champion Bob Wickings
FORMER Island golfer Bob Wickings won the La Moye Club Championship last weekend.
It was third time lucky at the St Brelade course for the 52-year-old Airline Services manager who defeated under-18 Island golfer Chris Young, the current junior captain at La Moye.
Wickings, who won 2 and 1 said: ‘Obviously I’m delighted to have won the Championship at last; it was a good match and Chris played very well too.
‘I managed to score four birdies on the back nine and that was the difference between us in the end. Chris is a good player and his day will come I’m sure.’
Wickings, who is vice-captain of La Moye, won the third hole to go one-up only for Young to sink a tricky six-foot putt on the sixth for a birdie to go back to all square.
Wickings won the eighth to lead again only for Young to make the match all square again at the ninth.
