The meaning of rolled over

READING the letter from Ray Greaves (JEP, 24 September) about being ‘rolled over’ reminded me of when I first came to Jersey, in 1971.
A Jersey girl told me that a man had been ‘rolled over’ outside her house. I was flabbergasted.
She couldn’t understand why I was so shocked that this could happen in Jersey, because in Birmingham the expression meant that you had been robbed, or mugged, as they call it today.
