GAVIN O’NEILL warmed up for this weekend’s south-east group league final for Hampshire by winning the  Royal Jersey Golf Club championship on Sunday.

O’Neill returned two one-under-par rounds of 69 taking him to a one-stroke victory over Matthew Vincent; another to have had a fine season and who was unlucky to miss the recent inter-insular through injury.

Senior Island golfer Sam Crenan – who finished fifth overall – won the junior scratch prize while Nick House, who had the best gross score in the 36-hole competition of 67, won the handicap prize.

O’Neill, a messenger at Moore Stephens, said: ‘It’s my fourth Club Championship in six years and, obviously, I’m delighted.
