A LARGE furze fire threatened homes near Val de la Mare, in St Peter, on Saturday afternoon.
Roads were closed and people asked to avoid the area as firefighters battled to prevent the blaze spreading, with a strong wind fanning the flames.
Firefighters were expected to be at the scene all this evening to dampen down the area. It is the third large furze fire in the west of the Island in recent weeks.
