TWO tries from second-row Jim Brownrigg earned Jersey RFC a 16-13 victory away to powerful Old Albanians in National League III South West on Saturday.
A late penalty secured Jersey the four points that keeps them level on points with unbeaten Dorking. Jersey have the better points difference by far, but Dorking stay top by having five wins to Jersey’s four.
In swirling winds, which made the game a lottery at times, Jersey had to come from behind to win as they trailed 13-8 in the 65th minute despite leading at the break 3-8.
Not unnaturally coach Ben Harvey was happy with the result. But he was not so pleased by the way either side had played.
‘It was a dreadful game,’ he said afterwards. ‘In conditions like these neither side had a great amount of play. We didn’t let them win much ball in set conditions but they had a big pack which they used to great effect and, to be fair to them, they didn’t allow us to move the ball away and turned us over very well.’
