It’s Sugar sweet for five Leonis lads

Ben Murray, right, will face Crawley’s talented Ross Payne on Thursday night
JERSEY Leonis have confirmed their team for this Thursday’s high-profile amateur boxing contest for the Fitzgerald Estates Gold Cup.
With the legendary Sugar Ray Leonard headlining the evening at the Hotel de France, competition was fierce to fill the five places against the South of England in this Jersey Dinner Boxing Club event.
As it is, the five representing Jersey on the bill are all crowd-pleasers, with lightweight Ben Murray giving weight away to Crawley’s Ross Payne, a talented boxer who, like Murray, is likely to challenge for ABA senior honours next year.
Boyd Munroe has also been lined up in a tasty light-welterweight contest against the South’s Shane Weston, while the ever-popular Craig Culkin takes a rest from his highly-successful football managing duties, to take on Lee Hillman at light heavyweight.
Boxing at the same weight, Leonis’s Ben Cairney faces a tough opponent in Andrew Swan, while Shane Goggin will be keen to prove a point in his return contest against Brian Keaveney at welterweight.
