WORKERS at Jersey Steel have this week been told that job losses at the firm are likely as part of an impending restructuring of the business.

However, at this stage the Beaumont-based company has declined to give any indication of actual numbers, as it says that it is at the earliest stages of the process. Jersey Steel managing director Graham McCrindle said: ‘Obviously in the current climate we have to look at our business, as there is not a lot of work out there.’

He confirmed that individual letters had been handed to the staff members who could be affected by the restructuring. ‘It will take some time and we do not want to panic people but there is a process to follow,’ he said.

The company is the latest in a line that have been following guidelines this year that will become law next year requiring firms to give staff notice of possible future redundancy.
