Surge in addicts rushed to hospital

A LARGE number of drug users have been treated in hospital because of a dangerously strong batch of heroin currently circulating.

Michael Gafoor, the head of the Alcohol and Drugs Service, said that users needed to take extra care at the moment.

Health has confirmed that an ‘abnormally large’ number of users had been treated for heroin overdoses in the past five days, but declined to give an exact figure.

Mr Gafoor urged anyone who wanted help with their drug problem to contact the free and confidential Alcohol and Drug Service line on 445000.
