Thousands turn out for Rally
Saturday 10th October 2009, 3:00PM BST.

There was good support for the Le Bourg to Queen's Valley Stage on Friday afternoon
Islanders turned out in force to support the Paperclix Jersey Rally last night, with thousands watching the Victoria Avenue stage.
Overnight leader was the UK’s Peter Lloyd and Nicky Grist, who dominated in yesterday’s tricky damp conditions. The pair have given their Subaru Impreza S12 a six-second advantage over Simon Mauger and Brian Cammack’s Escort.
Lying in fourth position this morning were Jersey’s Steve Leonard and Sion Humphreys, who guided their Escort to within a minute and a half of the leaders. Given the conditions today, they were still in with a chance for the main prize as well as for the Class 3 category.
Other Island crews doing well were Tyson Flath and Rob Hannah, who were in eighth position, and Jeremy Baudins and James Ollivero in ninth.

Sorry if i’m the only one but I don’t see this as anything other than an inconvenience to people with road closure and noise pollution and cannot see what possible financial benefit this is to the Island – there you go something for someone to moan about!!!

They come past my house, which is a bit of a pain.
But what the hey, it’s only once a year – and only a few hours of inconvenience.
The club are always courteous, giving plenty of notice of road closures, the marshals are very professional and it must bring in hundreds of visitors which can only be a good thing for the local economy.
Well done all round !

The rally is now a major island event along with the Battle of Flowers and the Air Display. Yes it causes a bit of inconvienience but if we want Jersey to be an event led island, that brings in the visitors, so be it.
I have to admire the drivers of the Mk1 and Mk 2 Ford Escorts – These cars are virtually dead and gone as daily transport, but even with the youngest of these cars being 30 years old, they continue to provide the amateur rally enthusiast with a quick, competitive RWD car !
