AN auction has been organised by a Jersey church to raise money to help people in Africa.
Next month seven members of the Freedom Church congregation are going to Burkina Faso in West Africa to build a children’s playground, deliver medical supplies and erect a roof on a rural church.
On Saturday 17 October there will be an auction to help raise money for the trip and there will be about 100 lots going under the hammer ranging from trial flying lessons to a pair of Stella McCartney sunglasses.
Andrew de Gruchy, one of the pastors of Freedom Church, said: ‘Burkina Faso is one of the three poorest countries in the world. Our connection came through one individual who my wife and I met at bible college.
‘He was returning to his home country and was a real man with integrity because unfortunately corruption does happen within these countries, particularly when sending aid.
‘We have been supporting Burkina Faso for ten years and we went out two years ago to build a children’s playground.’
He added that the people going to help in West Africa had paid personally for their flights out there. The auction is on 17 October at Hautlieu School from 7.30 pm.
