Fireworks are bad news for aged and for animals
Monday 12th October 2009, 3:00PM BST.
From Joan Romeril.
THE report that the Constables in their wisdom have decided to lengthen the firework season will strike dismay in the hearts of many animal lovers, the elderly, frail and nervous persons all over the Island.
Last year the Constables decided the opposite, but the have now performed a volte face – presumably because some shopkeepers have challenged them, saying that their profits will be depleted. The shopkeepers do not sell fireworks only, so their total sales are only marginally affected for a very brief period.
This is in contrast to the relief that many would feel if the sale of fireworks was restricted to organised displays. It’s time for people to speak out.
