PETER LLOYD and Nicky Grist’s Subaru Impreza S12 led from start to finish to winning the 27th Jersey Rally by 17 seconds from 2007 winner Simon Mauger and Brian Cammack’s Escort.

Third by a further 33 seconds were last year’s winning team of Tony Wilmington and Andrew White in their Evo 6.

Local drivers also enjoyed considerable success over the two days, particularly local ace Steve Leonard – still only 23 – and his co driver Sion Humphreys who claimed fourth overall and first in class in their Island-prepared Escort.

All leading teams gave their all throughout the Paperclix-sponsored rally and kept the large crowds who came out to watch entertained with some spectacular driving, including some thrilling slides through some of the tighter corners. Highlight of the event was undoubtedly the Victoria Avenue night stage on Friday with a series of tight chicanes and handbrake turns which tempted the drivers to turn on the style and keep the 3,000 plus crowd entertained.

Commenting on their win Peter Lloyd said: ‘It was a tough rally with a very difficult and narrow course. However, we drove a good clean event with no errors and this just gave us the edge over the two chasing cars.’
