7,000 doesn’t seem a lot

From C Thomas.
I KNOW mathematics are different now, but 7,000 out of 90,000-plus does not seem much to me. Petitions signed by 29,000 and 16,000 people were thrown in the bin.

So what is special about A Line in the Sand? The people in favour are mostly living in big houses with big gardens and plenty of parking. You do not see any letters from St Helier flat dwellers living in high-rise developments. The little man himself has got a luxury bungalow in the countryside.

Mr Vibert has got Les Landes and Grosnez for his family to play on. Now he wants Plémont, yet he votes against town people wanting a town park the size of a postage stamp. I bet he will not vote against two big houses almost on the beach on the Milano site.

Millionaires come over here and take over big areas, and in proportion paying less tax than the working man. We know Jersey Heritage do a good job and we need control. But what is wrong with modernising the Watersplash and self-catering at Plémont? The El Tico looks nice now and has not spoiled the bay.

If I throw a tin can on the beach I would be a litter bug, but at Les Creux they tip lorry loads on the beach, no problem. Another new arrival says he does want his letters on a Saturday. Here five minutes and he wants change.

How many States Members live in St Helier? You will soon need an English passport to visit some places in the Island. A Jersey one will not be sufficient.
