No final joy for Jersey’s county golf trio

Former Formula 1 champion Nigel Mansell finding it tough on the golf course
NIGEL MANSELL’S hopes of driving Hampshire to victory in the South East Seniors League Final were dashed as Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire’s lightning start left the ex-Formula One champion stalled on the tee.
Mansell’s introduction to over-55s amateur golf could have not have got off to a worse start as he lost his ball with his first tee shot before losing the hole.
Mansell steadied well against Adrian Donkersley, but the pair shook hands at the 16th with Donkersley winning 3&2 to put the first point on the board for the Three Counties.
La Moye’s Tony Haire lost to England Seniors International David Lane, who has won the English Seniors Championship three times, on the 18th.
But there was success for Royal Jersey’s Terry Smith, recalled to the side for the final after clubmate and Hampshire Seniors’ champion Vic Bourgoise was unavailable, who picked up the first point for the Red Rose side with a one hole win over Cliff Pearce.
Alderney’s Peter Cunningham won the 17th to go three up against Bob Clarke but it was too late for Hampshire who lost the final 7-3.
