TWO teenage boys who escaped a prison sentence after brutally attacking a man last Christmas went on to commit a string of offences around the Island.

Just two weeks after being given a chance to turn their lives around by the Royal Court, the two 15-year-olds were in a stolen car which crashed into a wall outside Accident and Emergency.

In May they were given community service after being part of a gang which violently attacked a man in St Helier. A 16-year-old, who was also a member of the gang, was sentenced to  youth detention. The group kicked a man around 50 times as he lay cowering on the ground and were described in court as ‘a pack of animals’.

After his release, the court heard that the 16-year-old stole a Porsche on 8 June and a Mazda MX5 on 22 June, which he then crashed into the wall of the Hospital while twice over the drink-drive limit.

The two 15-year-old boys – who had also just begun probation orders – admitted being in the MX5 when it crashed. The 16-year-old and the 15-year-old also admitted causing £178 worth of malicious damage to a house in St Peter on 13 June by smashing a window with a scaffolding pole.

On Friday, t he court sentenced the 16-year-old and one of the 15-year-olds to ten months’ youth detention each, and the other 15-year-old was again given a six-month probation order. One of the parents had to pay £1,000 security as a result of her son’s reoffending.
