Heritage bodies must have input on ‘exceptional developments’
Wednesday 21st October 2009, 2:58PM BST.
From Mike Le Cornu.
IN recognising the need to ‘respond to the Islanders’ concerns expressed so strongly at the Line in the Sand event,’ Senator Cohen nevertheless leaves open a channel through which ‘exceptional development’ could be permitted.
Frankly, if the Senator wishes to enjoy credibility, and to fulfil the aspirations of the protesters, the permission for any future development should only be sanctioned by the unanimous approval of the National Trust, the Société Jersiaise as well as the Planning Committee, which he leads.
Only in this manner can the ‘development please’ lobby be controlled and democracy prevail.
