Seeking information about Jersey roots

Wednesday 21st October 2009, 3:00PM BST.

Mr A A Wakley, of Plymouth, is researching his family tree and hopes to be able to visit the Island next year to learn more about some Jersey connections.

He wrote: ‘I am trying to gather information for my family tree, and so far I have found that my grandfather was a chief engine room artificer in the Royal Navy (as I was), and that he went down with his ship, HMS Indefatigable, during World War 1, in 1916.

‘The casualty records show that he was the son of Mr and Mrs H T Wakley, of Jersey. It seems that one of my granddad’s sisters married a Mr Tocques, a Trinity House Pilot, and that with his wife and daughter remained in Jersey during the German Occupation.’

If any readers are able to help with information, they can write to Mr Wakley at 34 Oak Tree Park, Glenholt, Plymouth, Devon, PL6 7JZ.
