Richard Tanguy now hopes to qualify for the Commonwealth Games

JERSEY cyclist Richard Tanguy can look forward to a premier calendar of events next season after gaining his elite cycling licence.

The 22-year-old former Hautlieu student, who has just completed a Sport and Exercise Science degree at Exeter University, capped off a brilliant season racing for the Pendragon Kalas team, a new team based in the south-west of England, by gaining enough points to qualify for British Cycling’s top licence.

He said: ‘I have been racing for a brand new team this year going around the country doing all the big races earning points towards my licence and I managed to get enough for my elite. It has been quite a natural progression as I have been doing more quality events so it brings you on as you are racing against the top guys.’

Now with the season over Tanguy, currently working in The Cycle Centre, can look forward to an action packed season competing against Britain’s best. ‘I also want to qualify for the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi and I’m getting there,’ he said. ‘I have until May to get the results and I already have quite a few so I’m hopefully well on my way.’
