Plans for the New Street building of the de Gruchy site Picture: Naish Waddington Architects
PLANS to demolish part of the de Gruchy’s New Street building to create a modern shop and three floors of flats have been submitted to Planning.
De Gruchy has applied to pull down everything from the travel agent to the bed shop, which is next to 16 New Street, the building recently renovated by the National Trust for Jersey.
The design, which includes 20 apartments and would create an ‘urban space’ with a work of public art where the car park currently is, is the work of Naish Waddington Architects.
Richard Hooper, of Naish Waddington, said: It will be a major regeneration for that area. We have moved in the modern classicist way exposing the frame which emphasises the rhythm and blocks of the street and highlights the cornice line of the adjacent buildings.’

I’m surprised that the old 30s building there at the moment isn’t a listed building. Or is it?
