JERSEY’S brother-and-sister duo Jamie and Rachel Macdonald take on some of the best young bowlers of the world in the WIBC World Indoor Under-25 Championships at the Victory Club in Portsmouth today.
The days are long gone when the junior championships played second fiddle to the real thing, as a glance at the fields for the men’s and women’s singles events will confirm.
Selection
Jamie-Lea Winch, who is defending the women’s title, and Hannah Smith, who was runner up in 2008, have been selected to play for England and Wales respectively in next year’s Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.
The field for the men’s event includes Geordie Robert Chisholm, who won the WBT Welsh Open in Swansea in February, and Irish sensation Gary Kelly, who won the British junior title when he was only 14.
Jamie will be delighted to have been drawn to play with Packwood, while Rachel teams up with in-form Scot Andy Barker, who has qualified for a place in the field for the WBT world indoor pairs championship in Potters Leisure Resort in January.
