JERSEY has again escaped the worst effects of the first day of a second round of strikes by Royal Mail workers, but will not be so lucky tomorrow.
The Island’s mail arrived as normal on the early morning plane, while items posted to the UK got into the system early enough to beat the effects of today’s industrial action.
Royal Mail workers began three days of strikes at 4 am today following a breakdown in talks between unions and management, with both sides blaming each other.
Jersey Post’s general manager of postal services, Andy Jéhan, said that as the Island’s mail gets put into the stream at regional level, it should be delivered across Britain today.
‘It is mail centres that are taking industrial action, so it is tomorrow that the effects will be felt. We estimate that we will receive between one third and a half of the normal volume on the plane tomorrow morning,’ he said.

Thank god for email and the internet, more reliable, faster and one hell of a lot cheaper in the long run.
At least email doesn’t go on strike lol

There is something I do not understand: is all the “foreign” mail destined for Jersey routed through the United Kingdom?
How do letters and packets originating in, say, North America reach us?

Hmmm, it would appear that responses to my questions (see above) have been delayed in the post!
As the managers at Jersey Post would appear to have a short respite from their delivery duties, perhaps they could answer me, please?
