Bleu Soleil campsite owner David Bridges: ‘We’ve had a cracking year’
A ‘VICIOUS’ price war has made 2009 a difficult year for hoteliers in Jersey, according to the politician in charge of the Island’s tourism.
Economic Development Minister Alan Maclean says that the economic downturn has left holidaymakers with less money to spend, with the result that hotels have had to drop their prices in order to fill rooms.
However, camping and self-catering accommodation seems to have escaped the price war that has broken out among hotels.
Campsite and self-catering owners have painted a different picture from that of hoteliers, with one campsite reporting a 300 per cent increase in the number of guests.
Bleu Soleil campsite owner David Bridges described a ‘boom’ in camping in the Island. ‘We have had a cracking year and we have plenty of bookings for next year, too,’ he said.
