A NEW book detailing the German Occupation of the Island is expected to represent a new cornerstone in available literature on that period of the Island’s history.

‘Jersey Occupied, The German Armed Forces in Jersey 1940-1945’ was launched at a ceremony at the Jersey War Tunnels yesterday. Author Michael Ginns took over ten years to complete it.

The book was launched at a ceremony attended by 100 people, including the Lieutenant-Governor, Lieutenant-General Andrew Ridgway, and his wife, Valerie.

Jersey War Tunnels have been working closely with Mr Ginns over the last ten years on the book and collections manager Chris Addy said: ‘It has been a personal privilege to work with Michael on this project. It was an experience that served only to enhance my respect for him as an author.’

Yet another book on the Occupation. 5 years of the Island’s history of over 3000 years have had more pages of print than the other 2995 put together.

Mr. Ginns served most of his occupation in an internment camp in Germany

Michael Ginns is a gentleman, leave him alone.
If you bothered to actually look at the book before passing comment you will have seen how great a work it is.

If anyone has the knowledge, passion and integrity to write a book on the Occupation, especially as this will be the 65th anniversary, it is Micheal Ginns. Get past the publisher’s advertising, every book is the best thing since sliced bread. Ian Ronayane’s book OUR’s -The Jersey Pal’s in the Firat World War, has been written just as the Great War passed out of living memory. Finally some justice has been done to the memory of those men. Let’s not let a decent account of the Occupation wait that long.
