The coloured glasses of nostalgia
Friday 30th October 2009, 2:59PM GMT.
From Ingrid Bihet.
FURTHER to the majestic photographic centre-page spreads of Jersey in your newspaper of 28 and 29 October, distilling the autumnal colours into the light shades of sunrise, daylight and dusk, I set out below the words of Donovan’s song Jersey Thursday written back in those heady days of the late Sixties:
In a tiny piece of coloured glass
My love was born
And reds and golds and yellows
Were the colours in the dawn
Night brought on its purple cloak
Of velvet to the sky
And the girls were wheeling,
spinning
On Jersey Thursday.
Whatever happened to the spirit of Jersey which we knew so well in those days captured in the words of Donovan’s song? Many of the headlines nowadays seem to be filled with doom and gloom and devoted to people who are not worthy of our devotion.
If we do not stop and think what we are doing to our Island today, tomorrow it may just be all too late.
