Education defend suspension policy

EDUCATION Minister James Reed has hit back at the recent criticism of his department’s school suspension policy.
Deputy Reed has defended the suspension system and is ‘disappointed’ with comments made by the chairman of the Education and Home Affairs Scrutiny sub-panel carrying out the review.
Last week Deputy Trevor Pitman told the JEP that the system was ‘flawed’ and that the panel had heard evidence to suggest that schools’ suspension policy was ‘failing students and parents’.
In a statement released to the media this morning, Deputy Reed said: ‘I am very disappointed by some of the comments made by the chairman of the Scrutiny sub-panel, and I would like to place on record that Education, Sport and Culture, in conjunction with our schools, provides a comprehensive range of support for all our young people. The suspensions policy should be seen in this context.’

Well said Dep Reed, as I said in previous posts this is simply a case of scrutiny making a mountain out of a mole hill to suit their own ends. They need to confine themselves to constructive and well thought out suggestions for improvements not headline grabbing wild allergations to justify their existance
