ANOTHER Jersey parish could be forging closer links with France after plans were announced to twin St Clement with the coastal town of Cancale.

St Clement Constable Len Norman said that a twinning had been in the pipeline for years and that Cancale, also known as the oyster capital of Brittany, was a perfect match.

He said that Cancale was a similar size to the parish, with the same population and similar values. He will be calling a parish assembly at the end of this month to see if parishioners are in favour of it going ahead.

Cancale’s mayor Pierre-Yves Mahieu came to the Island in August after Mr Norman visited his town in April, and they are both now hoping the twinning will go ahead in the coming weeks.
