A wonderful haven has closed

From Emma Boucheré.
I JUST want to remind and highlight to Islanders the work of The Overlooked.
Sadly, due to the ever-changing needs of the Island’s children, a wonderful respite and haven has closed. Brig-y-Don was donated to be a haven for children recovering from TB and eventually became a home for children.
In the aftermath of the horrors of another home on the Island, the work and sacrifice of numerous people has been swept away. I can speak from my own experience of being cared for and cherished at Brig-y-Don, and I am sad to see that the self-sacrificing works sadly will be forgotten.
Therefore, I want to shout from the rooftops and I am certain that all the other children cared for at Brig-y-Don would want to add their words of gratitude to all the people who brought sunshine into our lives and showed that we did matter, but mostly I would like everybody to recognise the works of these people.
One name that needs to be remembered is Miss M Holly. Not only did she run Brig-y-Don for just over 30 years, but she valued and cherished all the children despite their many challenges.
So again, don’t forget these wonderful people, and mostly thank you Miss Holly.
