NEXT year’s Jeux des Iles competition will be held in the Portuguese archipelago of the Azores.

Officials from the Jeux des Iles organising committee, COJI, announced the news this week during their annual general meeting which is being held in Tahiti.

Although Jersey’s representative, Hugh Raymond, was not in attendance he confirmed that the competition, billed as the Junior Island Games, will go ahead on the main island of San Miguel from May 24-30.

Raymond said: ‘We are very pleased with the news that it will be in the Azores, not only is it a beautiful place but the fact that it has been confirmed so early on is a real bonus. Last year we didn’t find out until the last minute whereas now we are in a position to start planning not only travel aspects but also team selection.’
