Indoor weather for Fort Regent
Friday 6th November 2009, 2:59PM GMT.
From Eric Smart.
A COMMON refrain from visitors and would-be holidaymakers is ‘Jersey is a fantastic place, except that you cannot guarantee the weather’.
I wonder if any consideration has been given to turning the Fort Regent into a Center Parcs-type attraction which would then ensure ‘the weather inside’ was perfect. This could bring in tourists all year round, and, if the UK experience is anything to go by, it would be hard to get a vacancy during school holidays and half-term breaks.
With the right family accommodation and the indoor activities as a base the visitors would then be able to venture around the Island’s many attractions by car, bike, foot or bus. Combine this with attractive ferry and flight deals and it would seem to be a winner, provided the Fort lent itself to such accommodation.
I wonder if this could even be a joint venture with Center Parcs themselves?

Eric Smart gets right to the nub of the Fort Regent issue.
His idea is truly excellent. Much of the infrastructure for realising Mr Smart’s idea is already in place, but serious thought must be given to public transport to and from Fort Regent.
Others have mentioned reviving the old cable car; it is a romantic idea, but a couple of Connex shuttle buses would be cheaper and more efficient.
Well done, Eric!
