Mary Blampied has been picked for the England indoor netball team
JERSEY’S Mary Blampied has been selected for the England women’s indoor netball team.
Despite having only played the indoor version of the game a handful of times the 26-year-old has gained a place in the side that will travel to South Africa in March for a World Cup competition.
The former Les Quennevais and Hautlieu student, who went to Bath on a sports scholarship at the age of 16 because of her netballing potential, has recently graduated from Bristol University with a BSc in Deaf Studies and now works as a sign language interpreter for Gloucestershire and Bristol Colleges. She was thrilled to learn the news having completed the final England trial in London on Sunday.
She said: ‘It’s been an absolute whirlwind. I’ve only played the indoor game about five times and I’ve made the squad after three trial sessions. I’m completely dumbfounded but I feel very honoured to be chosen to represent England.’
