Propaganda has come to Jersey

From Barry Runacres.
IT appears that the propaganda concerning the Afghan war has now spread to Jersey (JEP, 7 November).
What would be interesting to know is whether the opinions quoted in the Lieutenant-Governor’s Remembrance Day message are his private feelings or based on an instruction from his political masters.
What is clear is that the majority of the people in the UK are passionately against the war and want the troops out. No direct threat to the UK has come from Afghanistan. To say otherwise is a travesty of the actual facts. Whenever I watch the TV I am sickened when I hear that another young man has died defending the indefensible.
Our troops are dying there to defend a corrupt regime who recently passed a law permitting men to demand sex from their wives whenever they so demanded. Refusal would result in starvation or a beating.
Such things are quietly air-brushed out by Jersey’s Lieutenant-Governor. What he fails to understand is that people are no longer prepared to see lines of coffins being spewed out from the belly of numerous aircraft.
We went to war in Iraq based on a big lie and now we are repeating exactly the same concerning Afghanistan.
I think the Lieutenant-Governor’s cause would be better served if he stated all the facts instead of cherry-picking those that best suit the order of the day.
