SHOPPERS watched in horror as an 85-year-old man smashed his car through the glass doors of a Checkers Xpress yesterday morning.

Glass sprayed all over the store in Longueville, St Saviour, as the man’s silver Ford Fiesta ploughed through the doors of the busy store at about 11.15 am.

Fortunately no one was standing in the doorway at the time, but one woman who was walking close to the entrance was left shaken after the accident.

It is believed that the pensioner, who escaped without injury, thought that he had applied the brake but instead drove over the safety steps and down through the doors of the shop.
