Three seeds fall

THREE seeded players were beaten in the Caversham Men’s International Tennis Tournament at Les Ormes yesterday.
Second seed Karol Beck, the world No 78, suffered a surprising defeat to Belarus’ Uladzimir Ignatik, ranked 279 in the world, 6-4, 7-6 (5) and Romania’s Adrian Unger, world No 185 and the eighth seed this week, went out to Belgian David Goffin 7-6 (3), 6-1.
Meanwhile, British No 2 Alex Bogdanovic, the seventh seed, suffered a tame dismissal to qualifier Robin Haase of the Netherlands who powered his way into the next round with a 6-4, 6-2 victory.
Daniel Cox put up a good fight against top seed Florian Mayer from Germany before going out in three sets 6-1, 5-7, 7-6 (1). The British No 11, ranked 421 places lower than the world No 64 Mayer, said: ‘I had chances but just could not put my opponent away.
