Tobias Kamke knocked out top seed Florian Mayer yesterday
TOP seed Florian Mayer was knocked out of the Men’s Caversham International tennis tournament at Les Ormes yesterday.
The world No 64 went out in straight sets to Tobias Kamke, currently ranked 168 places lower than his German compatriot, losing 6-3, 6-4. This has set Kamke up with a quarter-final clash today against Denmark’s Frederik Nielsen, a champion in the October 2007 International in Jersey.
It was a different story for reigning champion Daniel Evans proved no match for the increasingly impressive fourth seed Jarkko Nieminen who stormed into the quarter-final with a 6-4, 6-2 dismissal of Britain’s No 5.
The ladies’ $10,000 event went to form yesterday with the six remaining seeds all surviving their second round tests with straight set victories.
Britain’s No 8 Jade Curtis, the second seed this week, got the better of Michaela Ince and this morning was playing Kiki Bertens of the Netherlands.
