CHIEF Minister Terry Le Sueur says that yesterday’s British-Irish Council meeting offered the perfect opportunity to ‘talk up’ Jersey to its neighbours.

Senator Le Sueur said that the visiting head of the Irish government, as well as the heads of the devolved assemblies in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, were all keen to learn about the Foot Review that painted a positive picture of Jersey’s finance industry.

The 14th meeting of the British-Irish Council took place at the Radisson Hotel yesterday, with the relative state of the economies of its members leaping to the top of the agenda.

Discussions on indigenous and minority languages were also held, but took a backseat to talks on the effects that the recession was having in the member jurisdictions, and an exchange of ideas about what is being done to protect the respective economies and communities.
