Mixed fortunes at Les Ormes

Finland's Jarkko Nieminem
Finland’s top tennis export Jarkko Nieminen beat fellow countryman Henri Kontinen 6-4, 6-4 in the men’s ATP Challenger event at Les Ormes yesterday. He will now play Germany’s Tobias Kamke in the semi-final.
The German, world ranked 232, continued his good run in the event with a 6-2, 6-7 (7), 6-4 victory over former Jersey winner Frederik Nielsen.
No 3 seed Stephane Robert also progressed with a three set triumph over Yannick Mertens winning 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 to setup a semi-final with Robin Haase of the Netherlands, who had an easier win against Uladzimi Ignatic, 7-6 6-3.
Meanwhile, the top seed in the Ladies $10,000 Caversham International, Stephanie Vongsouthi, was knocked out of the event.
The French favourite was beaten by Timea Babos 6-3, 6-4 with the Hungarian now set to take on Kinnie Laisne for a place in the final. No 3 seed Laisne (FRA) ended qualifier Veronika Kolarova’s run with a 6-3, 7-6 (5) victory.
Britain’s Jade Curtis, the No 2 seed, continued on towards the final after holding off the challenge of seventh seed Kiki Bertens with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 triumph.
The finals of the AIB Junior Grand Prix were played this morning. The U18 boys’ AIB final starts at 8.45 am on Sunday with the international ladies’ final on court at 10.30 am and the men’s immediately after.
