YESTERDAY may have felt like a normal Wednesday for many women in the Island but it marked the only day of the year when the fairer sex is recognised in the business world.
Women’s Enterprise Day, part of Global Entrepreneurship Week, was celebrated by scores of local working women yesterday. A group of business women, led by entrepreneur Jennie Hamilton, took to the streets of St Helier to spread the word about the importance of the day.
‘Women’s Enterprise Day is all about celebrating women in business and encouraging many more to turn their passion into profit,’ explained Ms Hamilton. ‘It isn’t just for women who are self-employed – it’s for all working women. It’s about women working for a living and making their mark.’
As evidence of the rise in the number of women breaking into the business world, Ms Hamilton has recently set up her own online networking service Deals in Heels. ‘It’s a way for women to network online without leaving their desks,’ she said. ‘It’s networking at your fingertips.’

Woman already have equal, if not more power than men in the work place and in many other aspects of life. Men lost the sex war a long time ago.
When’s men’s business day then? and is there a ‘Men that do business’ networking site?
I dont think there is.
Oh well, back to work or my female boss will catch me out!

Well, they do say that a woman’s work is never done.
Which probably explains why they get paid less.

Political madness, sorry i mean correctness! So does this mean that it is socially acceptable to start mens clubs again?
I’d like to see the ‘uproar’ from women if it were suggested that a men only networking group had been set up.
Plus is this not an idea that has already been flogged… I am sure the simalirly named Dubai outfit heels and deals and also the identically named US womens networking site have this market covered.
What’s really needed is a ‘Founders of Womens Networking Sites Networking Club’, so every women founder can get together and inspire more women to start womens networking clubs!

Most cities have a women in business club for both entrepreneurs and intrepreneurs so it is not unsual. There has been loads of research that women in general feel more comfortable and at ease networking with each other. There are plenty of all men networks and clubs still about and when wib networks were set up it was originally in response to this.
I belong to a number of mixed clubs and networks and even they can hold separate events for the sexes due to differing interests.
i do not think it is sexist, i think that it is about interests and style of events.
I think the intention of this group is to encourage woman in enterprise to support each other and to offer mentorship to each other.
