Approval for flats on hotel site

PLANS for the demolition of the Fort d’Auvergne Hotel at Havre des Pas and the construction of 37 flats have been approved.
However, the owners – brothers Sean and Seamus Morvan of the Morvan Group - say that the hotel will remain open for at least another year.
The plans are for 37 one- two- and three-bedroom flats on seven storeys and 60 car parking spaces. A condition is that the owners refurbish a neighbouring building ‘of local importance’ which was formerly staff accommodation. The owners have also bought a sculpture by Turner Prize winner Anthony Gormley as part of Planning’s Percentage for Art Scheme.

Another hotel which will fall victim to the shrinking tourist trade, if development proposals are approved, is the Sylvania Private Hotel in St Lawrence.
Frank Brady, of developer K and F Properties, has applied to demolish the hotel on Route de la Haule and build eight flats in three storeys.
Hotel owner Sylvia Howard (60) is retiring after 40 years in the industry, running the former Sandringham Hotel in Gloucester Street with her late husband for 35 years and the Sylvania hotel for the last five years.

7 storeys! The Hdp pool will be in a constant shadow… ridiculous. I thought there was a restriction on the number of storeys a building could be on our shore line? The building itself is quite attractive but does it have to be 7 storeys high?!

I give up. This island is ruined. A charming Victorian seafront will now be blighted by some massive building totally out of character with the area. Jersey has had it, it’s over.

Lamborrari..it was an exaggeration to get my point across…a 7 storey building on a quaint Victorian seafront will stick out like a sore thumb… talk about being “sensitive to the area” ..practice what you preach planning…

I would love to live in one of those apartments when they are built. It is everyone’s dream to on a seafront location with the added advantage of being so close to town.

I thought the ones at La Haule look very nice and are a vast improvement on what is currently there.
