IT was the best day ever on the goal scoring front for Jersey’s professional footballers on Saturday as Brett Pitman and Daryl Clare scored five goals between them for their respective clubs.

Pitman, who missed the chance of a hat-trick after having an early penalty kick saved, notched both AFC Bournemouth’s goals in a 2-1 League Two win at Macclesfield helping The Cherries back into top place in the division.

Mansfield Town’s much-travelled Clare (31), now on loan until 1 January 2010 at Blue Square Premier Gateshead, hit a hat-trick in Gateshead’s 3-0 home win against Grays Athletic.

Former Jersey Football of the Year Peter Vincenti was also in action playing the final 17 minutes in Stevenage Borough’s 1-0 Blue Square Premier win away to Forest Green Rovers.
