Safety training on the increase

JOB losses have led to a demand in safety training as Islanders seek to gain extra qualifications to become more employable.
The heads of two training companies have reported an increase in the number of Islanders enrolling in safety courses, which teach people how to use anything from small tools in the office to large equipment on building sites.
4Hire managing director Nigel Blandin attributes the increase to a rise in the number of people losing their jobs, as well as businesses realising the importance of training their staff.
Tony Pallot, of Tony Pallot Health and Safety Training, said that a crackdown on companies flouting the Health and Safety Law as well as job loss had contributed to the rise in training requests.
